Patricia Doyle, Teacher
Patricia has taught Pilates worldwide from London to Washington and more recently in Geneva, Switzerland. Now she is delighted to join The Pilates Studio Dublin family to share her love for Pilates in Ireland.
Patricia has over 11 years of experience in teaching Pilates in addition to many years studying bodies & movement through the mediums of dance, choreography, Chinese medicine, shiatsu, kinesiology and anatomy.
Patricia’s love for movement started with her lifelong passion for dance. Her early career was as a professional dancer and choreographer. She graduated with her BFA from TCU, in Fort Worth Texas under the esteemed Ballet Russe teacher, Fernando Schaffenburg. She then furthered her studies as a scholarship student at Toronto Dance Theatre, a Graham based dance company, and subsequently joined Los Angeles Dance Theatre. She continued dancing, performing and choreographing for several years throughout the West Coast and other parts of the US. One of the highlights of her career was a tour with Patricia’s dance company and the Chieftains in the US and Ireland.
While Patricia was living in London and practicing Shiatsu Therapy, she got more involved in Pilates. She qualified with Gordon Thomson’s Body Control Pilates group and then commenced teaching with Gordon at his original Body Control Pilates and Rehabilitation Studio in South Kensington. After attending a class with a Romana trained Pilates instructor, Patricia discovered that this was the Pilates training she wanted to study to further her understanding of the Pilates method and system.
After a move with her family to Washington DC, Patricia commenced an intensive year of rigorous training with the world acclaimed Romana Pilates program in New York City, graduating in 2010. Patricia completed her education at True Pilates New York under the tutelage of Sari Mejia Santo, Jerome Weinberg and Cynthia Shipley and furthermore in Washington, DC with Michael Rooks and Andrea Burkholder. She then taught for five years at Pure Joe in Washington DC.
Patricia’s style of teaching is a culmination of the many teachers and forms of movement she has studied and performed, but always keeping closely to her Romana Pilates training. This year Patricia studied with Juanita Lopez in Chicago, a Master teacher of Romana Pilates, and has studied extensively with Cynthia Shipley in workshops in DC. Other wonderful Romana Pilates teachers she has trained with this year are Anthony Rabara and Janice Dulak, (a specialist in Pilates for Equestrians). Patricia loves teaching and passing on her extensive knowledge of Pilates.
From the beginning of her teaching Patricia has been dedicated to increasing her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology. While studying for the Master’s program at UCLA in Dance and Choreography, she also studied Anatomy and Kinesiology in their respective departments at the University. She recently took a workshop at Restore Motion a physiotherapy practice, on the correct use of the body in Post-Partum Rehabilitation.
